A parent approached a school resource officer on Tuesday, Sep 13, to say that sometime during the past week, a student had made concerning and possible violent threats against the school.
That sparked an investigation, and officers quickly identified the suspect, who is no longer a student there, school and police authorities said in a joint statement. The probe is ongoing, but officials do not believe there is an active, credible threat against the school.
Officials said they released this information to quell rumors and to show how seriously they take any potential threat against any Manchester Essex Regional School District facility.
"Please know that we are here to support your children and that their safety and wellness are paramount," Superintendent Pamela Beaudoin said in a press release. "By making this incident public, our intent is to reassure students, staff, and families that we have procedures in place for their safety and that safety planning and training are major priorities at MERSD."
